Mary Carol Souness B.A.(Hons.)

As well as being a hand weaver, Mary Carol produces her own line of contemporary jewellery from her studio in Fort William. All her work is based on landscape and includes leaves from the Caledonian forest in fine silver, with her own hallmark.

Mary Carol also produces a range of “Cloutie Gems”, inspired by her time spent in the hills with her husband who was a hill shepherd and the ancient Celtic practice of cloutie wells and trees, the “Clout”, or cloth is an age old form of remembrance, whether you wanted the gods to remember you or perhaps a fair knight or maiden. These “Gems” incorporate recycled, restructured textiles and sheep fleece in a unique way.

Mary Carol also makes a range of jewellery made using highland cow hair,

by mixing hair from different cows some interesting effects can be seen.

There is also a range of products promoting celtic symbols and ancient celtic animals.
